The Old Abe State Trail is a cooperative effort between the State of Wisconsin and Chippewa County. This paved 19.5 mile trail connects Lake Wissota State Park in Chippewa Falls and Brunet Island State Park in Cornell. The trail, an abandoned railroad grade has been developed into a trail for bicyclists, snowmobiles, hikers, horse back riders and in-line skaters. In addition the trail meets all accessibility standards.

Begin your trail experience at either trail head; in Cornell at the Mill Yard Park where there are restroom facilities and plenty of parking (Hwy 64/178 & Park Rd.) or on 97th Ave (junction of Hwy S & Hwy O). The trail can also be accessed at different points along the way including the Anson Town Hall parking lot in Jim Falls. The trail winds through agricultural and forest land while following the undeveloped shoreline of the Chippewa River. This trail features an abundance of wildlife and natural beauty, with many historical sites and markers also visible along the way.  For more information on the Old Abe Trail click here
